Over the last two weeks I have been undergoing a fair number of medical examinations, complete with the requisite blood draws, tests and procedures. Now during this fortnight there was one significant constant:
A tremendous amount of waiting time.
Not enough to write, but certainly enough time to pause and reflect - at least when I did not fall asleep in the "patient/guest lounge".
With the advent of modern medical practices has come the removal of most of the televisions with volumes set to 100 decibels or so (save for the lobby at the Kansas City emergency room I visited, where the locked down screen was set to Fox News - next time I take ill, I hope to find myself in Metropolitan Minnesota), for the vast majority of American humans carry their media with them. Tablets and smart phones are virtually universally carried by people from across the spectrum of society, allowing them to play games for the most part, but with a few stalwart souls tuning into the "news" of their choice.
Occasionally there would be excited utterances from these beleaguered citizens, ranging from the "I cannot effing believe this crap" to the literal gnashing of teeth followed by the unceremonious tossing of the innocent handheld against the hospital wall.
OK, to be honest that only happened once, and it was a man of Socialist bend who had just witnessed yet another mind-numbing press briefing with Ms. Sanders, so who can blame him?
For my part, I started to formulate the queries I would make if I were in a position to proffer them to the Oval Office Oaf, Not just any questions, mind you, but ones that many Americans with way too much time on their hands might dream up.
Like Question #1: Did you recruit your campaign officials with their ability to handle being arrested on suspicions of felonious acts as part of the criteria?
Now we all know about Flynn, Arpaio, Manafort, Gates and Panagopoulos, but they are just the headliners. Let us not forget the lesser Trump stars.
So far we have seen everything from Jerry DeLemus, the Vermont native that Donnie named as Co-Chair for his Veterans for Trump organization to Ralph Shortey, who claimed that illegal immigrants were notorious for human trafficking, back when the Oklahoma Republican was a state campaign manager for Donald Trump. Now Shortey is headed to prison — for child sex trafficking charges after he was caught in a hotel room with a special guest.
For his part, not much time was required to pass before DeLemus started wearing a set of "Federal Bracelets", for he was arrested in March of '16 for “conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States, threatening a federal law enforcement officer, attempting to impede or injure a federal law enforcement officer and several firearms charges”. The ex-Marine also is one of the first Trump Campaign supporters to become a guest of the government, earning a 7 year conviction for his role with the Bundy fiasco.
The former Sheriff David Clarke from Wisconsin is facing his own issues, having apparently abused his power - and an American citizen. Trump's African American lawman must now appear for a trial on Jan. 22 after posting threatening Facebook messages directed at a man he encountered last year at an airport. Clarke’s posts could “reasonably be understood as a threat, coercion, or intimidation that punishment … will immediately follow,” U.S. District Judge J.P. Stadtmueller
Maybe Clarke's punishment is just around the corner.
