Firstly let me say that in general I don't find issue with the musings or monologues of Bill Maher, In fact I'd say he is one of the most consequential voices of the counterculture in the US for decades. From Politically Incorrect to his long running Real Time series shown on HBO Maher has always been happy to sail close to the wind and never adverse to courting controversy or thumbing the eyes of those who warrant such treatment.

On his broadcasts he gives many of his guests a tough enough time should they fall afoul of Maher's own views. However he is in the round a fair enough interviewer and someone who is largely listened to by his core viewership.

His opinion is listened to by those who see him as their voice. However sometimes that opinion can be simply stupid and his need to appear as a voice above the din of argument between left and right. Maher will often go against his own studio audience should his opinion gain a negative reaction.

When he does so he tends to be wrong in a big way. During one of his recent conversations on Real Time the topic turned to Laura Ingraham's recent difficulties in her attack on one of the Parkland shooting survivors and the fact that advertisers were fleeing Fox News answer to Lily Riefenstahl. Ingraham who hides behind her version of whatever whored version of christianity she espouses and is a willing participant in the peddling the idea that 'American Values' are under threat.

Ingraham seeing the power of those survivors saw her target one specific survivor and his college applications. Like the poisonous rat she is her only recourse was to take the week off as advertisers disassociated themselves from her nightly hate filled and ignorant propaganda show for the hate filled.

When the conversation switched to Ingraham's self inflicted issues Maher was all too quick to jump to Ingraham's defence and how she was being treated unfairly at being singled out for using her nightly platform to attack a shooting survivor.

Sorry Bill, but you can take that bullshit and shove it in your next Bong. His issue was calls for people to boycott advertisers. When he mentioned this you can see in the video Bill seemed almost irate that his audience almost applauded this boycott turning to his audience and asking ''Really....is that American?''

Well yes Bill because like many nations it is the money that pays for broadcasts such as Ingraham's. You don't write a strongly worded email these days.....you boycott those paying the bills and the wage packets of these hate peddlers.

Hit these bastards in the pocket. It's the only thing they know. To boycott a business because of their support for the likes of Ingraham and other rabid right wingers is the only language they seemingly get.

You cannot reason with the ideologically ignorant and in particular those whose platform has only emboldened the types of viewers who vote for morons like Trump and those who want to take the US back to the 19th Century.

On this Maher is completely wrong to even consider Ingraham as being treated unfairly. His reasoning being that when these young people stood up against those who don't mind school shootings they must expect a backlash...

      Well no.

Their way of standing up against those who want more guns not less and targeting advertisers who pay for advertising space are legitimate to target. Those from Parkland will be targeted but instead of running from the nasty words of hate peddlers like those on Fox News, the students know exactly what part of any of these organisations to target.......Money.

If the right wing media machine tweet......Parklands advocates hit the advertisers.

It's the only language most on the right speak and understand and fear most.

      Maher should know this.

          Bill Maher forgot something.

Freedom OF speech does not 'trump' freedom FROM speech.

People have the right to turn off the TV, mute the sound until the next person talks, or use their pocketbook power to send a message to the revenue streams that the obnoxious speaker is unacceptable.

He also apparently doesn't understand that most decent human beings won't tolerate an established bully picking on kids who have been quite truthful about "what the h3ll is going on".

Agreed. But for me it wasn't that she attacked a kid who went to that school that made the difference -- but that she attacked a high school kid at all -- AND -- that she did so by mocking the colleges that he got accepted into vs the colleges he applied to.

It was both an inordinate use of power against a high school kid - and extremely elitist -- which is certainly hypocritical for her since she often bashes "elitists" in her commentary.

(besides the fact that the schools he did get into were very good schools anyway)

It was no longer a Right vs Left issue and was simply very rude and obnoxious treatment of a kid. Even the Right wingers for the most part got silent about it.

Maher misses the boat on this one, because he is so anti-boycott. Whether or not the boycott was the correct response to Ingraham or not wasn't the issue - the issue was her obnoxious behavior.

And I can certainly see why some companies wouldn't want their name associated with someone who bashes kids in an elitist fashion. Those advertisers who left her were not making a political statement about guns -- after all, they were already advertising on Fox News. They were just making a capitalist PR decision, which they have the right to do.

I believe he's still upset on losing his first show on abc all those years ago.

                  That being said hes wrong.

Whether its Ingram, the Dixie Chics, Maher, Kaepernick, or whoever you cant say anything you want but do with the understanding that you could be ruining your paycheck.

I couldn't have put it better! I was completely dismayed when watching this particular show. Never before have I seen this attitude from him, nor could I understand his stance, unless it was purely for the reason that it had once happened to him. Guess that kind of reaction to a public figure really hurts them in a vulnerable spot when people boycott their sponsors. Hail to the people.
