Ok...I preface this by saying I hope Bernie DOES NOT run in 2020. I also hope Hillary doesn't. In my view, they are both flawed candidates.
Hillary is...well, let's face it...Hillary. People who hate her will crawl through broken glass to vote against her. And Bernie? I cannot see enough of America overcoming the idea that he is an octogenarian Socialist Jew...to vote for him. And that is what the line of attack would be.

We all know that Social Democrat is NOT the same as "Socialist" but my countrymen do not make such fine distinctions....they have the fear bug in them about Socialism...and they simply won't in my view, vote for Bernie.

Yes...I am saying I do not believe Bernie could have beat Trump, either. I know the BoB's will beg to differ, but I really don't care. They can yammer on and wave all their polls, I WANT CROSSTABS!! Because I believe his popularity is non-existent outside of his narrow bubble. For precisely the reasons of "Socialist" and "Jew" and "octogenarian." I wish our country was different, because I LIKE BERNIE...and I like his ideas. But he can only hurt us by running.

Here's the thing...I got into it on yet another Forum...supposedly for Progressives...which turned out to be yet another Rah Rah Bernie....and Bernie and Nobody But Bernie site.

THERE ARE GOOD PROGRESSIVES THAT ARE NOT BERNIE!!

Before I got kicked off the site (and that is debatable, since I posted to the Admin that if this was a "Bernie and Nobody But Bernie" site, to count me out) - some of the BoB's actually challenged me...that if Bernie were to run and win the nomination...would I vote for him?

ARE THEY FOR REAL?? I AM A PARTY PRECINCT CHAIR!! OF COURSE I WOULD VOTE FOR HIM!! I AM A PROGRESSIVE!! OF COURSE I WOULD VOTE FOR HIM!!

I told them as much...and that I would vote for him HAPPILY. And I would.

The problem is..I do not believe THEY would take such a pledge in reverse...so here's your opportunity, Bernie cheerleaders!! Here is your chance to prove me wrong, and I hope you do.

Will you, Bernie Supporter...pledge to vote for the Democratic nominee...if Bernie runs and does not win the Primary? Will YOU pledge to not go third party or write Bernie in? Will YOU pledge to do everything necessary to make sure Donald Trump does not win a second term??

Are you all truly happier having Don The Con in the White House...rather than even a flawed Dem? Really??

So how about it, Bernie Supporters?? Will you pledge with me? And will you then follow through?

THIS is why you drive a lot of us crazy...and why you get blamed for Trump...because you WOULD NOT pledge in 2016...and DID NOT suck up in 2016.

Will you this time?? And after you pledge will you follow through? Will you honor such a pledge if you take it? How about it??

      PLEDGE:

I, ANGELA FOX BRIDGMAN, PRECINCT CHAIR OF THE WAKE COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY, PRECINCT 10-02 AND ELECTED MEMBER OF THE NORTH CAROLINA DEMOCRATIC PARTY'S STATE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE DO SOLEMNLY SWEAR THAT I WILL VOTE FOR THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY NOMINEE, NO MATTER WHO IT IS...EVEN IF IT IS BERNIE SANDERS.

As a Precinct Chair and member of the SEC, I should not even have to pledge this, because it goes without saying in my position. But I will do it, because I do not ask others to do what I will not.

      Now...for Bernie supporters...

      PLEDGE

I, [INSERT YOUR NAME HERE] DO SOLEMNLY SWEAR TO VOTE IN NOVEMBER 2020 FOR THE NOMINEE OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY, EVEN IF IT IS NOT BERNIE SANDERS.

Will you all take that pledge??

I admire the time you took to post this, and agree that we should be a united Democratic party.

I have no qualms about taking that pledge. NONE

I am a Bernie supporter who agrees with both you and Gayle Killian . I think Bernie performed an invaluable service to the country by coming forward with his agenda in 2016. I voted for him in the primary election, because I believed that the DNC establishment had not prioritized representing FDR's working class and middle class constituency, at least since Bill Clinton went "New Democrat" and cozied up to Wall Street. I happily and enthusiastically voted for Hillary in the general election.

But I agree with you that neither Bernie nor Hillary should run in 2020. Both would be excellent "party elders" to help guide on policy development. But you're right that both of them come with heavy baggage that the Democrats should not have to carry into the next presidential election. You characterize Bernie's baggage as "Socialist," "Jew," "octogenarian," none of which is a problem for thinking people, but definitely would be used against him. Eighty percent of Hillary's baggage is absolutely no fault of her own. Republicans expected her to run for president ever since her husband was elected in 1992, and they ginned up a ceaseless series of slanders against her, from the death of Vincent Foster to the raid in Benghazi, none of which were true. But 26 years of ceaseless vilification (and counting) is hard to overcome. I personally believe that 20% of her baggage is hers to bear, consisting of her "New Democrat" coziness with Wall Street.

But I second your motion that neither Bernie nor Hillary should run in 2020, and I happily take your pledge to support the Democratic Party nominee.

Thank you for agreeing with what I am saying. I agree, also, and believe I was clear...that neither "Socialist", "Jew", or "octogenarian" would be a problem for me...but I believe that he would NOT be able to overcome them in sufficient volume to win, and it would thus doom us to four more years of Trump.

Also agree with you re: Hillary. I have a few personal issues with her, but I still voted for her in the General in 2016 (I did vote Bernie in the Primary) - I was NOT an enthusiastic vote for Hillary, because of my personal issues with her...which have a lot to do with her history with the trans community.

Yes, under Obama's guidance and direction, she did some good things for us at State, mostly having to do with identity documents (passports) - but I cannot quite get myself past the fact that in 1994, Hillarycare had a specific exclusion on transgender-related care. The fact that most insurance at the time did is NO EXCUSE...and fr a specific reason. The reason is that she was presenting herself as someone who has always been on our side...when the facts show otherwise.

She never had what I call "an Obama moment." Obama did not always support us. He ADMITTED THIS...and then said he had evolved...and now supported us. This put him in a position that he could not easily back off of support for us. Hillary never did this. Instead, she wanted us to forget about Hillarycare, and about how she did NOT always support us, and wanted to paint herself as someone who did. This made it possible for her to jettison support for us if support for us ever became dangerous to her own political ambitions.

I therefore did not feel I could trust her to be a steadfast ally to the transgender community...as I could Obama. Now...Bernie...he's been on board back before it was cool to be on-board!! So I never had any reason to believe he would be anything other than a steadfast ally...and I like him, I like his agenda, his ideals, especially his economic ideals. But, dammit...i just do not see enough of our country overcoming "Socialist", "Jew", and "octogenarian" for him to win. Any ONE of those things...maybe. But all three?? Fuhgeddabout it, this IS still America, and sadly, much of my countrymen are NOT as open-minded as I am.

If it was anyone other than Trump we were up against...I would root for another Bernie run in 2020. But too much is at stake. IT IS IMPERATIVE that Trump is defeated. And we need a candidate with as little baggage as possible...and we need to move past the bitter feelings that still exist from 2016 which could fracture our Party and hand a victory to Trump.

Sure. That's a pledge I can easily take. I love Bernie, I felt an enthusiasm over him when he ran that I'd not for a very long time. I wish he won the nomination. But unlike some of my Bernie supporting friends who refused to vote when he didn't, or voted third party to 'protest', when it came to voting day, I voted Clinton because I didn't want Trump. I'll always vote blue, no matter who, at this point in time I think the survival of our country depends on it. The GOP have shown their true colors and I want no part of it.

All that being said, I am hoping he doesn't run, or Clinton. Time to move on to some newer faces, fresher blood. There's just too much baggage that will be revisited on those two, anger from last election that will carry over to this one, tearing the party apart. We NEED to stick together, now more than ever, or Trump will win again and I just don't believe we can survive that and be recognizable for being the country were are..or were...and won't live up to the possibilities of what we are capable of.

Exactly why I prefaced my article as I did. I hope NEITHER Bernie nor Hillary runs, because either can only hurt us. We need fresh faces and new blood. We absolutely MUST get Trump out. Our country cannot survive a second Trump term.

                              Thanks for pledging.
