We have a person in the Oval Office who came to the WH with NO, NONE, ZERO, ZILCH governing experience. But he had a vision and the temperament to draw and hold crowds. He has failed, profoundly, to lead the nation.

O'Rourke has announced that he thinks he has had enough experience, and that he has the vision and temperament to lead the nation.

Does he? He is certainly appealing on a personal level and sufficiently charismatic/electrifying to gather and hold a crowd. But experience....

Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke is an American businessman and politician who represented Texas's 16th congressional district for three terms in the United States House of Representatives. A native of El Paso, Texas, O'Rourke served on the El Paso City Council from 2005 to 2011. He co-founded Stanton Street Technology Group, an Internet services and software company and was involved with a significant number of civic organizations.

As the 2018 Democratic U.S. Senate nominee, O'Rourke was narrowly defeated by Republican incumbent Senator Ted Cruz.

On March 13, 2019, he announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States in 2020.

Compared with......(and that IS who many are comparing him to...)

      Barack Hussein Obama in 2008

      United States Senator
from Illinois Member of the Illinois Senate
      from the 13th district
      In office
      January 3, 2005 – November 16, 2008
      In office
      January 8, 1997 – November 4, 2004

47 years of age when he ran for the Presidency....having announced that as announced that he thinks he had enough experience, and that he had the vision and temperament to lead the nation.

He was certainly appealing on a personal level and sufficiently charismatic/electrifying to gather and hold a crowd.

      SO WHAT DO YOU THINK?

      Is O'Rourke Obama 2.0?

No more businessman presidents, please. A country is not a business and should not be run on what’s best for the bottom line. A country is a society that should be run on what’s best for the common people - not Billionaires or corporations.

Yes, but in a way so not to go bankrupt. I’m not much for killing the goose who lays the golden eggs for one great feast. I don’t support Beto the businessman or Bernie the Socialist. Lot’s of choices in between and different in many ways.

I believe he has the experience but I think he is seeking the office for the wrong reasons and it leads me to not trust the man. he certainly light years ahead of trump and I'd vote for him if he ended up winning the party's nomination but turn the stage I don't like him. I see him as the guy who is running for president because as a kid he wanted to be president and he wants the fame and Glory. Not because he has a vision for the future.

Also also he has his moments where he reeks of desperation. like the desperation of that one awkward kid in middle School who's trying to hang out with the cool kids and can't really accept that they're not going to include him into his friend circle. A notable example of that in my opinion was that time that he live streamed a trip to the dentist prove how much of a cool normal guy he is. I actually got to watch some of that live and it was some of the most cringey behavior I've ever seen from a Democratic presidential candidate.

In a word, no. Beto is not Obama, apart from a similar charisma. Beto is far more conservative than he portrays himself based on his record. He has a very amiable, seemingly unscripted way of expressing himself, has a realistic and mostly optimistic view for issues related to border security (being from "safe" El Paso), but lacks depth on broader, particularly foreign policy, issues.

Overall, an excellent candidate for turning Texas purple, but not for president (at least not yet).

Actually, your description of him does sound like Obama, who was very strong on domestic policy but also lacked depth on foreign policy issues. Obama did gain a more nuanced understanding I think after he became President, but his foreign policy record was still not that great.

but no one can stand up to the popularity of Obama. If that is the standard, no Dem can come close. He was the JFK of our era in that regard.

We have a lot of great choices for 2020, and Beto is one of them. The only real loser I see in the field is Bernie. And that is not intended to disrespect or discount Bernie. He would be a way better president than Trump is. Of course that is not a very high bar. I think Bernie, as a self avowed socialist, albeit a Democratic socialist, most people don't understand what socialism is.
