      Tell the Democrats to compromise!

Why can't the debtors of the government workers understand and give them until the shut down is over to catch up. We could all help each other through this.

The landlords and mortgage holders of the government shutdown hostages have their own bills to pay. Everyone up and down the line has bills to pay. Yet we've seen countless examples of our fellow Americans trying to help these innocent victims of this artificial crisis step up and offer what they can to help.

It's actually reassuring that we haven't completely lost our souls to the forces of darkness.

The Democrats have given Trump everything for border security except his stupid medieval behemoth barrier and it's becoming more clear every day that Trump wants the shutdown even more than the wall.

I disagree. Trump offered compromises several times even before the shut down but the spoiled democrats want all their way or nothing. Refuse every compromise he has offered. Eventually , I am sure he will tire of it and no telling what will happen. Nancy needs to get off her high mule and start thinking about doing some compromising. What have the democrats offered besides No Wall? Give nothing, get nothing.

On December 19th, the Senate passed a stopgap continuing resolution by unanimous voice vote that would have kept the government open through February 8th with the understanding that Mitch McConnell had the president's support. The bill did not contain the $5 billion-plus Trump was demanding for his wall. The Democrats had signaled their support when the bill came to them. But after a day or two of tongue-lashings by Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and other right-wing pundits, and before the House could vote on it, Trump did an about-face and withdrew his support.

Now McConnell won't put anything before the Senate for a vote without confidence that the president will sign it and is no longer sure the president won't change his mind again (and embarrass him again).

I'm especially fond of 5. It's not exactly a laugh riot, but it makes its point forcefully, starkly and beautifully in silhouette. (That's the graphic designer in me talking.)

As a designer yourself, as well as a political observer, you can appreciate the tug-of-war between aesthetics and content. Add to that the built-in necessity for humor and there's always an especially subjective dynamic tension in evaluating political cartoons.

That's why I call these (occasional) Cartoon Roundup's a 'pundit post' due to the process I go through in selecting and sequencing them, although I obviously did not create them.

(I've frequently found cartoons that were very clever but poorly executed, or vice versa, and felt I just couldn't include them.)

Sometimes you have to wonder if it IS satire. Unless the name "Borowitz" is attached, I am never sure anymore if it IS satire!!
