What is a political houses of worship ?

'People leaving their houses of worship over political disagreements is natural and to be expected. It's certainly happened frequently, sometimes explosively, over the history of religion.'

What was the point of this story ?

That you need decide, historically religion has been on every side of every issue. Pro slavery and pro civil rights, pro war and pacifists.

Change now just may be folks don't care what the church says or thinks and are leaving

I was the Business Administrator for a 5,000 member church. I can emphatically say - churches are a business. PERIOD. They are run no differently than a large corporation. However - when they need "money", they are the pillars of Biblical guidance and will use any trick in the book to get people's "sacrifices for good" (their usual spiel) !! I could write a book . . . . and maybe will someday.

Trump may have been the final straw for many which attributed to the 14% decline . . . . but people are waking up and accepting the fact that "churches are a business". Speaking of which - churches should pay taxes !!

Footnote: When I left said position at the church, I had seen enough to literally make me physically sick. I really left in a "Blaze of Glory" !! But then, THAT story is for a whole other post !! LOL

The industrial revolution started with the age of steam, Ford mastered the production line, conspicuous consumption was born.

Religions followed suit like just as every other industry had to. Nothing mystical 'bout it lol

I guess my question is: Why are the other 86% still there? I left the religious propaganda at the church door, I just could not come to terms with the teachings of the whole thing, it insults the intelligence of a 3 year old.The hypocrisy of the church goer, in general, but not everyone, is astronomical, be as pious as you can be in church, but once outside the doors, be as nasty as possible. With the Evangelical war against Science, Reason, Equality, and Common Sense, most Americans are able to see religion for what it is, a self aggrandizing movement that belittles those dare to disagree.

I believe that most of organized religion exists solely to deceive its followers and gather as much money as possible.

However, there are some that religion offers comfort in their time of need.....I've only met a few in my life, but they do exist.

Being pagan, I don't believe in any of it. All life has value, be it human, animal or plant. Those like me tend to live by a very strict code of ethics but not by any rules set down by any church. We respect life, be it human, animal or plant....they all have a life aura (spirit) and should be respected.
