I actually agree with the basic message, Ziggy. I want us out of the role of world police and ugly American too, but 'how to really fight terrorism'? Seems like there has been a noticeable lack of terrorism on US soil since 9/11. Do you really think our record of foreign violence would be this low if there had been no 'war on terrorism' started by Bush? And while you blame the US (not a party or administration) for lack of direction and clueless planning, you still find a way to blame Republicans specifically in your post over 6 years after Democrats took over policy. Still afraid any criticism of Obama will label you r-a-c-i-s-t? Or is none of the US foreign policy you are actively rooting against his fault? (I had to check your profile to see if you were American. Of course it is alright to root against the US if you are not American)

Here is the new boss, same as the old boss. Old way still in place. Not time to stand up and smack Russia, yet...Putin needs to be put in place, to far, to long. However he wants resources. Or spoils of a battle. So he figures flex what muscle he has take what he wants. His people are hungry, cold, in fear, his soldiers spread thin. Oh he will tell us to back off. If you think for one minute this is about killing terrorists in his play book think again.

I apologize then, it is so hard to keep people straight sometimes.

I have no idea how the second comment follows so I won't say anything other than there is a distinct difference between local, or home grown terrorism and foreign terrorism and they use such completely different methods that entirely different federal departments were created and are used to combat each. Russia has much more local terrorism than the US and since you were championing them above, I thought you were strictly talking about fighting foreign terrorism. And yes, I thought foreign terrorism has been very low since 9/11. Please enlighten me, what are the myriad acts of foreign terrorism I am forgetting?

Well then, I would say that Russia is worse off than us. As bad as we are, Russia's home terrorism has claimed a lot more casualties than American terrorism of all sorts and you can include 9/11 in the body count. If you counted state sponsored terrorism, Russia is historically among the leading butchers in the world. Your zeal may be a bit misplaced. Now if you are just laughing at Russia for taking over a hopeless situation...right there with you, but expecting effective, much less positive results? Heh...

Current day? Yes, per capita there are a lot of African thug countries that beat Russia today, but they are well ahead of the US in terrorist deaths over the last 5 and 10 years. It evens up when you go back just far enough to include 9/11, but if you go back 25, 50, 75 and further Russia vaults back into the lead. If you include state sponsored terrorism the USSR is responsible for more deaths than the entire populations of most African countries. Want terrorism today? Just google terrorism in Russia, you don't need me.

No good, the pogroms of Russian Jews and the cleansings by Stalin blow away American slavery. And not only was slavery was as commonplace on the east coast of the empire of Russia as it was in the south of the US, the indentured servitude of Russian serfs throughout the empire was nearly as dismal as the average slave plantation.

When they spend the money we have, a trillion or two, and lost the lives we have, thousands, then it can be said they have outdone us in the middle east. But that isn't going to happen anytime soon. What that article is saying is that they have taken the upper-hand since the exit of our ground force in Iran and the rise of Isis. That part is true. I say let them have it. They aren't doing anything but scooping our poop.

We "fail" if the Russians beat ISIS ? Seems like a win , win to me ...... Aren't you tired of being the "world police" ?..... I am.... If someone else can win ..... So be it....

It isn't perception. They are bombing the Kurdish fighters in the north. Those are our guys. ISIL is in the central and eastern end of the country, and they have done almost nothing there.
