      I vigorously disagree with Erick Erickson, right-wing conservative of Atlanta, on many, many things, not least his blind "pro-life" stances. But he's right on target on his main subject here--

      About this website
      THERESURGENT.COM
      In 1917, Alice Paul was arrested for carrying a banner quoting Woodrow Wilson while protesting for women’s suffrage. She was jailed, beaten, and force fed eggs when she staged a hunger strike. Dora Lewis was knocked unconscious against an iron bed. Lucy Burns was chained in a cell with her arms ov...

          I couldn’t find the article by Erick Erickson. Since there was not link, I searched the net, but came up empty.

          However, I clicked on the picture you have provided which took me to a column by Merrie Soltis. She is obviously conservative, but does seem to get what these Democratic women in Congress were remembering as they wore white. She states;

          when you read about women being "given” the right to vote or “earning” the right to vote, be clear on what these women [suffragettes] suffered just so that we could be allowed to cast our votes.

          Anyone who conflated their white apparel with the KKK is obviously missing the symbolism and only too ready to ridicule what even the most Right Wing Historians recognize as a huge step forward for American liberty/freedoms. 100 years ago women fought hard to get what should have been their right; and the people of the USA can be grateful that they did. I certainly am!

              Those women were paying homage to those Suffragettes, by showing them that their sacrifice is finally paying off. Mr Erickson is shaming them for celebrating the very thing those women suffered to achieve. I applaud them for remembering the sacrifice.

              Erickson come's off like a sadist, as he had no problem graphically depicting their torture, but not really getting into what they were fighting for. If he had done that, he might have gotten it. Are we only worthy of honor if we're being beaten into submission? What has Mr Erickson suffered lately, that he can have his say, without getting his butt kicked by some angry white guy, or a group who believe that God needs them to make him suffer, for their original sin?

              The Klan and wearing white to honor Suffragettes? That says more about Mr. Erickson than those he's talking about.

                  I can’t find the article by Erickson. I searched but may not have used the right words.

                  I clicked on the picture in Ed’s post of the women in Congress wearing white, and got an article by conservative Merrie Soltis who agrees that conflating our women in white with KKK is over the top.

                  For me, those women in white are a hopeful sign. I appreciate them all.

                  I’d like to further comment that the author saying that Republicans “gave “ the vote to women makes me see red too . The suffragettes went through a lot of emotional and physical pain to fight for their (and our) rights.

                  I also read the comments from readers that followed her column and was appalled at their thick headedness. Man are we up agains an ugly bunch!
