I just talked with our grandson - an international student at the University of Ottawa. WHOA . . . are the Canadians ANGRY about Trump and his ugly and disrespectful words against their Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau.

Trump's minions are all over the MSN stabbing Trudeau in the back and downright calling him childish and petty names. (Kudlow, the economic adviser, referred to him as Pierre Trudeau ! Knock, knock you dumba#s, he is Justin Trudeau's late father who was Prime Minister from 1969-1978).

IQ45 wants to look tough for the North Korean summit. Great way to do it . . . . alienate all our allies and destroy our economy in the process.

Meanwhile, our grandson has shown why he loves Canada so much. Me, too - as I'm ashamed to be an American right now.

I am certainly no fan of the Trudeau Administration, but Trump's continued predilection to publicly insult leaders of allied nations is bizarre and counter productive.

I assume he thinks his base likes it because they take it as the "America First" behavior.

He not only insults our allies . . . he refers to them by his/her first name. The man knows nothing about respect or protocol. That being said, I agree - his base will love it, as they know nothing about either, too !!

Trump's diplomacy is a thing to behold - as an example of what not to do. On the other hand, he does have a point. Why do the Canadians object to a 25% tariff on steel when they put a tariff of 270% on dairy?

They told us about the dairy last year when Wisconsin farmers were screaming foul: They don't need our dairy, they have plenty of their own. Ditto timber. Just because America produces "duplicates" is no reason America has to sell it to people who already have it, no reason to obligate people to buy it (other than the usual gunboat reason). That's also the case, by the way, with so much other stuff traded among nations.

U.S. position goes like this: You produce corn, I produce corn, I sell you mine, at a price my farmers are happy with, you sell me yours, at a price my farmers are happy with. We call that fair and equal. Even if, and this is entirely the case, my farmers are subsidized to the hilt. BTW, my farmers are not happy that you subsidize your farmers; it's just not fair. Fair is colloquially defined as: 80% benefit for me, 20% benefit for you.

"Balance of Trade" is a two-edged sword that America uses as Sword of Damocles against all nations. It's not a mistake that America consumes 23% of World GDP, while, I might add, being at war with and in several countries simultaneously. End of conversation.

                          FACTS:

                          U.S.-Canada Trade Facts

U.S. goods and services trade with Canada totaled an estimated $673.9 billion in 2017. Exports were $341.2 billion; imports were $332.8 billion. The U.S. goods and services trade surplus with Canada was $8.4 billion in 2017.

                          IMPORTANT:

However, the international shipment of non-U.S. goods through the United States can make standard measures of bilateral trade balances potentially misleading. For example, it is common for goods to be shipped through regional trade hubs without further processing before final shipment to their ultimate destination. This can be seen in data reported by the United States’ two largest trading partners, Canada and Mexico.

The U.S. data report a $17.5 billion goods deficit with Canada in 2017, and a $71.1 billion goods deficit with Mexico. Both countries, however, reported substantially larger U.S. goods surpluses in the same relationship. In 2017, Canada reported a $97.7 billion surplus, and Mexico a $132.4 billion surplus.

I'm sure IQ45 knows NOTHING about the aforementioned FACTS !

Bottom Line: It's all about logistics and "creative" financial reporting

I am Canadian, and I wish we did not have that brutal tariff on dairy. The only defense I can offer is that is is done solely to protect Canadian dairy farmers. Without that tariff, thousands of farmers and farms would be driven out of business. The dairy tariff exists not to maintain a balance, but to protect a Canadian industry from being obliterated.

What nation would not do that?

You meant to say Trump's lack of diplomacy correct? There is nothing diplomatic about an ignorant fool who thinks he knows best when in reality he really doesn't know squat and a damn thing except to act like a bully or a whiny little child always having his little hissy fits.

The USA has it's own protective tariffs. Check out sugar and tobacco for two of such products which USA charges an unusually high tariff. Most countries have certain products/industries they wish to protect and place extremely high tariffs upon similar imports. That is business as usual. Trump just picked one industry Canada protects and whines about it yet isn't smart enough to realize we do the same damn things with certain industries as a means of protecting them.

I'm glad Stupid put dinosaurs like Kudlow, Foolianni and Bolton on his team. They refuse to acknowledge there are brilliant young minds in government and remain committed to old, washed-up, archaic tactics like trashing someone to make yourself look better.

Trudeau stated the facts, that tRumpy indeed is sloughing off scales at the world in an attempt to appear to Jong Un like an even bigger bully than he already is and that he's also endeavoring to undo his predecessor's work also in an attempt to inflate his own ego.

Kudlow blows back with this old timer crap that a boorish no-mind looks better when he's unchallenged? Oh hell no, it's exactly HOW one reacts to a challenge, like the one Trudeau put down, that makes the character.
