Obama Might Issue an Executive Order to Force Gun Control

By Christopher Spata October 9, 2015 10:41 PM

With his back against the wall, President Barack Obama might be considering a controversial option to finally take action on gun control after yet another U.S. mass shooting.

The Washington Post is reporting that the president could sidestep congress and use his power to issue an executive order that would mandate more and stricter background checks for gun buyers.

Think about this for a moment: Obama has addressed the public after mass shootings at least 15 times during his presidency. This year alone, he has given speeches after the massacres in Charleston, Chattanooga and Oregon.

When 20 students and six adults were killed by Adam Lanza at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012, it felt like perhaps we'd reached the point where even the most pro-gun legislators could no longer ignore the need for gun control — we've had 142 school shootings in this country since then.

Need more? Maybe you've seen this video:

So yes, the president may very well be considering taking the only action available to him in a situation where the nation is looking at him to do something, anything, and the NRA's kung-fu grip on Congress is only getting tighter and the president himself recognizes we're becoming numb to it all.

Meanwhile the president went to Oregon today to meet with victims of the mass shooting at a community college there. He was greeted at the airport by hundreds of pro-gun protesters with signs like this: "We are better without Obama!" and "Go back to Kenya!"

It will be voted on, in the 2016 election. I don't have any problem with stricter background checks, as long as the criteria are clear and have passed through the legislative process. I also don't have any problem with limiting access to automatic weapons or military weapons, like grenade launchers and anti-aircraft weapons. I think the Supreme Court has made it clear that the Constitution allows the individual citizen to bear arms in a regulated manner, even to form militias, if they are well regulated. By that I don't mean, fat-assed middle aged men carrying M-16s and feeling macho. They are a joke, and the Army would make short work of any traitors who rebelled against the duly elected government, as they should. If even a duly elected government cancelled elections or did things way outside its authority EVERYONE should rise against it, not just not just holier-than-thou knotheads, on the right or the left. Those of us in the middle should have the most guns and be the most watchful of the lunatic fringes, left or right, and the government, of course. NO government, no matter how nasty, can stand against 60 million citizens on the streets, even if their guns only fire one round per pull of the trigger.

I certainly hope it never comes to that, don't want to see my grandchildren facing that kind of world. And sir, that is my greatest fear as government gets bigger and bigger. Blessing to you and yours!

You mean a referendum? Yes, that would be interesting and might bear some fruit. Then again, the results might not be what you want.

They'll vote to keep their guns and the violence will continue. Responsible gun ownership is the key. Gun ownership may be allowed by the 2nd amendment, but indiscriminate gun violence is not.

It is so entrenched in our culture, the bad guys will always have gun with that comes violence, I am almostafraid it can't be contained.

This he won't do. I can't imagine any President ever doing this or much about guns. Americans will continue to kill each other and they'll continue to be sad while the usual right wing gun nuts tell us that guns don't kill and look at Chicago.

Well that's a weird comparison considering Chi-town is run by Democrats, yet you speak of right wing nuts. Being fair both parties bear the blame.

Chicago is a good example about how a nanny state fails to raise good kids, and that causes injury and death. Keep electing liberal democrats and you will have that in every city in America.

How is Chicago a nanny state? The murders in Chicago happen for lots of reasons and not because of liberals. If that was the case then explain the murder and crime rates in states run by Republicans.

Stop pointing fingers and understand the blame is shared by both idiot parties. We can use Baltimore, dem run for years, were they happy with their government? That place has many high ranking Dems running their city and look at what happened? And they allowed complete and utter chaos while their home was destroyed. I would say left wing nuts allowed that to happen. But the whole issue is really about the PERSON behind the trigger!

How do you justify taking an illegal action that will not solve the problem. Universal background checks would have prevented ZERO mass killings. They would however allow the feds to know where every gun in the USA is, in case they want to do an England/Australia type confiscation.

I have no problem with universal background checks, but if you start confiscating guns, you are going to cause a violent upheaval, that will change America for the worse. And you don't have the authority anyway.
