The State of Florida got it right this time and so did the All our Weathermen. I don't care if the storm missed us or not I would rather have prepared for it to be safe. Everyone from Government right down to the Ordinary citizens worked together. There was so much information out there to keep you informed. Warning on Tv's, Sent to your phone ,on social media, newspapers or just someone you met while you were out sharing where to get gas, stores that were open, etc.
After a long night of being up because the worst part of the storm the center hit us here in Winter Haven Florida starting at 11:45. There had been so many predictions where it was going to hit we were warned only a couple hours before but we had already had been having wind and rain most of the day. Lucky for us we just bought our brand new house on July 31. It was built to sustain wind 130 miles an hour. Went hit 100 miles an hour. The wind sounded like a freight train coming through from about 11:45 to 2:45. Our garage door bowed at times. Water leaked thru too. But the Hurricane doors worked as they should. It is so scary when this happens at night because you really can't see anything and it is really dangerous to walk outside never knowing if anything would be flying towards you. We live in a community where the builder is still building in here and they did not take their dumpster that some where full . They just put dirt on them which scared us if the debris in them would start flying around. Seems none of it did. Lucky Us. Another lucky thing was we never lost power. Which is a big thing because we live in a state that is hot and muggy while August and September are usually are hottest months out of the year. My daughter's and their families weren't as lucky living in Tampa Area.
Florida has learned from it's other storms Like Andrew and all those that followed. This was the largest Storm to ever hit this state and we did it right. Technology was our Savior and everyone knowing they needed to work together no matter who you are. It was about US. I am proud to be a Floridian. Too much will always be better than not enough. Now I am going to take a long needed rest. We survived THE EYE OF THE TIGER. Clean up will still be long there is a lot of damage around the state but it looks like we have the Nation to help us. They are coming from all over. Thank you. We are Making America Great Again learning it takes a Village.
I am also wondering where Hurricane Jose is going. Hoping out to sea.
