In this age of resurgence of white nationalism/paranoia, open carry and bumpstocks, nazism OK, China bad, Black people bad, somebody needs to open up and obsess on Black Experience in America, from the bottom up. In the early 60s, musicians James Brown, Miles Davis, and Ray Charles began to promote the notion that "black" should be regarded as a good thing when applied to people. 2 generations later, White America still struggles with that notion.
Chicago, Baltimore, Los Angeles, TaCompton, all of those places which have given White America license to think and act viciously toward people of color, what those places have in common is lack of money/education, and sincere interest in City Halls run by white people. White commitment to prevent upward mobility of people of color is the basis of American ghettos. In the same way it is the root of White America's desire to stymie global progress of China.
Sports and music were never meant to be roads to success for
people of color Black people, but thanks to Serendipity it happened anyway. People like Shaq O'Neal but for basketball and music never would have made it out of the ghetto. Meek Mill likewise. But consider this, lots of people of color are making serious money these days, and still feeling the sting of exclusion and racism/resentment, and their children will continue to have a rough go of it; only their grandchildren will have life better, as they assimilate into "the larger culture." Perhaps by 2050, the grandchildren of today's people of color will be allowed to live in peace in America, will be allowed to feel proud of being American. Hopefully!!!
