These three items are the biggest obstacles but not the only ones. It was a long road to get equal rights for all to vote and have protection under our Constitution only to see corrupt politicians/law makers and political Parties use devious and illegal means to prevent legitimate voters from casting their vote. Just today in Ohio the SCOTUS upheld Ohio's right to purge the polls and eliminate those who haven't voted during a short period or didn't respond to a letter sent out by the Ohio officials inquiring if they still lived at the address on their voting data.

Voting is a means by which each and everyone of us gets representation in our government and to lose your right to vote in essence is the same as losing your voice in government. Votes are equal for all whether you are the poorest of the poor or a billionaire, your vote is equal. We must remain vigilant and press upon our law makers we will not tolerate corruption and stealing votes is just that, pure corruption not to mention purely illegal.

Do we need to reinstate the voter's right act?

I think it is reasonable that voters should be on a roll. If you don't check that the people are actually there and still alive, you have a whole bunch of voter fraud. Also, if someone can't be bothered enrolling, I am not convinced they are taking things seriously enough. I assume enrolling is not difficult.

You are missing my entire point. I never suggested that dead people or people who moved shouldn't be taken off the rolls. I think they should. What I said is that I do not think people who didn't cast a vote in a certain time period should be taken off the rolls.

I wonder if you haven't bought a gun in two years, and the state sends you a letter saying you haven't bought a gun in two years and you don't respond, can the state take away your right to buy a gun? I bet the NRA would like such a law, because everyone who wants guns would have to buy one at least every two years, or at least respond to the state's letter telling them they had not bought a gun in two years. Gun manufacturers would sell a lot more guns.

The most disturbing thing about this, to me, is that a supreme court justice, ANY supreme court justice, would conclude that purging someone from the voting roll is justified because a state notified the voter that they had not voted, and didn't get a response, even though the law clearly says voters cannot be purged simply because they had not voted.

Writing the opinion for the five-justice majority, Justice Samuel Alito said that a 2002 law, the Help America Vote Act, amended the National Voter Registration Act and clarified what states could do to remove people from the voting rolls. HAVA, Alito wrote, says a state cannot remove someone from the voting rolls only and because of their failure to vote. What Ohio does, Alito wrote, is permissible because people are removed if they fail to vote and fail to respond to the state mailing.

So, let me see if I can follow this "logic". If the state sends you a letter saying you haven't voted in so many years, and you don't respond, the state can purge you from the voting roll. BUT, the state CANNOT purge you from the voting roll ONLY AND BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE TO VOTE?

So WHY did the state send you a letter telling you that you had not voted in the first place. I suspect it was ONLY AND BECAUSE you failed to vote, because they obviously would not have sent you a letter saying you failed to vote, IF YOU HAD VOTED!
