      Trolls?

I have a question for the Yabberz community (and maybe for Tom Lowe -- though my question is broader than just what anyone might say about him or than he might say)--

Different folks define Internet trolls in different ways. For me, it's very important that a troll is not merely someone who disagrees with me or dislikes what I say or believe. I actually enjoy exchanges with people who want to debate me, provided it's reasonably thoughtful & respectful all around.

I define "troll" as someone who comments on my post or my comment but who never replies to any counter-argument or fact brought forward--but who then returns to my posts later and disagrees with those.

Tom Lowe may wind up fitting that definition--though he may well just not have yet come back to Yabberz lately and may yet respond to my questions or points (and if so, he would then not be a troll IMNHO).

      S0, for all of you--

      1. What constitutes, in your opinion, a troll?

      2. What is your advice on dealing with trolls, however defined?

      3. (least important) Have you had experience with Tom Lowe being troll-ish?

Ed Buckner , I happened to encounter Tom Lowe while I was deep into studying the Koch Brothers Libertarian Network, including all of the Koch-funded institutes, the Cato Institute, the Heritage Foundation, the Mercatus Center, etc. I noticed that Mr. Lowe's contemporary posts were virtually word-for-word recitations of Koch Brothers Network training material for Libertarians. That would make him a Libertarian propagandist.

The great research into the Charles and David Koch network recently done by Nancy MacLean, Jane Mayer, and Daniel Schulman proved that they are 100% about trying to return the USA to the time period before the Great Depression, when the "robber barons" completely controlled the government and the economy, working people had absolutely no protections (in fact, the robber baron's ideal period was before slavery was outlawed), and the barons of the industrial revolution didn't have to give a damn about polluting the air, water and soil. The Libertarian movement started around 1934, to try to stomp out the New Deal programs to benefit working people: the 40-hour work week; protection for labor unions; improvements in public education; public works and rural electrification programs to build the infrastructure and provide much needed employment, and the Social Security program.

What all this means is that our latter day, rank-and-file Libertarians, who are not wealthy barons of industry themselves, are complete SUCKERS and FOOLS. They are reciting the Koch Brothers' training material, working hard to try to dismantle the New Deal, and working to return THEMSELVES to indentured servitude, along with all the rest of us.

My strategy for dealing with trolls, or cult-programmed propagandists, is to state my point once, and move on. Trying to reason with them and getting involved in lengthy back-and-forth exchanges will only waste your time.

              A troll's purpose.

Lemme see how many thoughts come to mine. Hmmm?

To pick and poke at things, or particular people, to get a rise out of them.

To create disharmony and, if they can, cause bedlam.

To undermine the progress and/or strengthening of others.

To use subterfuge in any and every manner he or she can resulting in a ruckus.

              To disorientate the truth.

To take a dump in one's pot and then stir.

I try and not use the term ....

                  Just me ....

I only "call" someone out on it when they respond with a innane response ( a picture , a "cute" remark which doesn't answer )

Which we have had a few ...

                  Tom ?

I'm hoping its just that he hasn't come on the site recently ....

I'm fine with those that have other things to do ...

I have noticed some don't get back quickly as they need to come up with some "witty" response or are waiting to find a right wing site that's ddressed this ....

I have noticed that a few big "violators" have disappeared ....

Maybe they realized it wasn't going to work for them ...

I will respond to pretty much anyone who responds to me ...

I know it bothers some , but I refuse to have them think they "won" ....

They can always block me ....

                  As far as Tom ?

He does only answer what he wants to answer ...

                  That's all I've seen in him ...

                  Again , just me ...

Here is a first class source on what Trolls are and how they work (in many of the multiple varieties): "Extreme Mean - Trolls, Bullies, and Predators Online" - Paula Todd (pub 2014).

                      With

vivid reportage, Paula Todd goes deep into the world of "extreme mean,"

uncovering the people who use the Internet to undermine lives rather

than improve them. Through exclusive personal stories of online abuse

from around the world, including the suicide of Amanda Todd (no relation) and the

untold costs of Rebecca Black's experience as "the most hated girl on

the Internet," as well as interviews with troll-tormentors, accidental

abusers, victimized kids, and adults, Extreme Mean explores the

often surprising roots of online abuse, challenges current academic

thinking, and offers new ways of understanding the nasty and the

nefarious who erode humanity and threaten Internet freedom.

Provocative, astute and compelling, Extreme Mean

is a shocking yet inspiring illustration of behaviour that affects all

of us. It's a call-to-arms for change, and a search for ways to turn a

moral panic into a moral possibility."

I have avoided posting here for some time....but this is worthy of comment.

I have "Trolled" individuals. One or two here, a few on twitter. My trolling consisted of essentially stalking posts to find ways to respond in a manner to kill their argument, or make them look foolish.

I have gone "too far" on a couple of occasions where I realized that I had started an obsession (which is bad in any form).

Ignore trolls. Even me. If we are trying to pick a fight...we are idiots that need to be ignored. Succumbing to the desire to "get in the last word" just makes a troll's day.

Just my thoughts on a damn good question.
