A couple of times a week I stop at a local watering hole. Bar on one side, restaurant on the other. I meet friends there. Quite often I stay to just listen to the conversations going on around me. My county voted 82 percent for Trump in 2016. The county has vote "Trump" ever since. Trump's approval rating remains very high.

Given all that has happened and is happening HOW does this continue?

EZ.....they want Trump to WIN! Because they believe, in spite of the facts, that if HE WINS then THEY WIN.

My neighbors include lots of farmers who are being shafted in trade as crops sit unsold. There are people whose jobs have been affected by the impact of tariffs on the factories where they work. My neighbors include people who have their healthcare because of Obamacare but won't admit it. I have neighbors who are on "food stamps" and other assistance which is not flowing now "because the democrats are playing politics.

It comes down to the power of three emotions: hate, anxiety, and anger. They are fuel that feeds the irrational furnace that heats their minds.

And the fevered brow eventually sickens the rest of the body.

Trump, the MOST SUCCESSFUL of WHITE MEN, shares in those emotions with them and provides justification for their thinking and their feeling. He says and does what they want said and done...

I do not know how they change as every challenge to Trump is seen as proof that he is being unfairly treated....just as they are.

So glad your here to tell how I feel, otherwise I'd feel nothing at all. Who are you to know how I feel? I do not feel hatred towards you or anyone else. Nor anger, nor anxiety. Why do you think I do? Its not me with blinding hatred.

Trump is not enforcing laws he created. He isn't enforcing Obama's illegal immigration laws that he executive ordered. He doesn't have to. His job is to enforce laws passed by congress.

If we were treated fairly, this would still be a forum.

Much Analysis has been done on this subject and it is always interesting to read personal observations from you MurphtheSurf3 .

The Dunning Kruger Effect plays a part in helping to understand the intellectual rational behind Trump's supporters.

But why would people MurphtheSurf3 helped get health care for the 1st time in their lives vote against their own self interest? Perhaps it is the herd mentality of your county. People want to be part of the community and if you live in the country and it is where Trump's base resides.

Soybean farmers have been hit particularly hard hit, yet Trump's support remains strong with them, Why, Professor?

Historians will spend a great deal of time analyzing the history of The Trump phenomenon, and I suspect it will not be in a positive light. Even his ex cabinet officers describe him as being incurious, refusing briefings, reacting to TV rather than his own intelligence agency's explanations and staffers.

Trump has perfected "The Art of the Con." He instinctively tells people, suckers, what they want to hear. The weak and vulnerable are the most susceptible as they most often live live lives of quiet desperation. He promises more than he can deliver, knowing that in the end they will be satisfied with only Hopes and Dreams of a Better Life. At least he gave that dream a chance, even though it was Illusory at best.

MurphtheSurf3 you touched on something here that needs a Historian to break down and explore..

              Regards,

              Oldshooter

I think the Democratic Party forgot who they were and had a problem with messaging.

They forgot to remind people that Democrats brought them Social Security and Medicare, 40 hour work weeks, college education for Veterans, and a myriad of other things that Republicans want to take away.

For each benefit people love, emphasize that Republicans want to take this away.

Democrats then have to truly take up the mantle of the little guy in this country. Trump has fIled for bankruptcy 4 times. Did you know a person can no longer file Chapter 7 four times? Joe Biden was one of the people that pushed for and signed those bankruptcy reforms. Yeah. Mr. I am for the little guy, except when he was the Senator from the state where a bunch of credit card companies had their headquarters.

As for Trump, he knows what all good con men know. Eventually you will lose some people, but some will always stick with you. Why? People don't want to admit they were stupid and got conned.
